Yeah, I'm certainly not denying that...then again, all the Sox pitchers have regressed this year, it seems.
I’m just hopeful because Dac’s had success with reclamation projects before. See De La Rosa, Jorge….Hammel, Jason…Street, Huston. Ah, you get the idea. :)
Tomorrow night is when it’s coming in and we will probably get a full blown tropical storn but the hurricane part looks like it will stay over Cape Cod. So just a really stormy night tomorrow I hope.
I wanna cry too. And I hate the Phyliss too.
But I love baseball too. And at this point, it doesn’t really matter “if the Rockies are done” to me, its still, well, my favorite team playing my favorite game.
Just win as many games as possible now and enjoy it while it lasts because with the offseason coming that hunger for success will get worse before it gets better
And look at his season line. Same as our former leadoff guy, Willy T. He came up swinging at the first pitch with the bases loaded againt Contreras that was in the dirt, after the previous two batters had 3-1 counts.
He’s not really a major leaguer at this time, and we can ill afford that in a playoff race. Now he can play the rest of the games since the race is over for us. I’d still prefer to see what Nelson can do.
It’s not as if he is good, but the fact remains he has been an upgrade over Barmes, especially given his speed. Ergo, it cannot be his fault we are not in contention when we would have been worse off had the switch not been made.

But the highs are worth the lows.
And the Rox give us plenty of both.

MileHighMadness - September 2, 2010
Yes indeed.
If you wanted to win 99 times out of 100 when you are 4 runs up in a crucial game, there are other teams you could support. No thanks.
ukroxfan - September 2, 2010
Amen
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
Aw, do we REALLY have to have a sobfest overflow?
trekinaz - September 2, 2010
I'm not sobbing
I’m looking forward to stomping the Padres.
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
I'm ready for next season to start
the 2010 team is just killing me
Colsportsfan - September 2, 2010
With all due respect, none of us are surprised you said that.
trekinaz - September 2, 2010
lots of young talent on this team
2011 will be a good year….just going to enjoy the ride the rest of the way this year
TuLoRocks2008 - September 2, 2010
OK, forget the wild card. Go and whip the Friars. That may be our best shot right now.
pedalpusher - September 2, 2010
If the Rox can't win the WC
I suppose they could settle for the division. ;-)
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
post of the night.
pedalpusher - September 2, 2010
great debut from Delcarmen
4 runs 1/3 of an inning and a loss
TuLoRocks2008 - September 2, 2010
Eh, it's his first game with the team.
I know he’s had issues all year, but has he even met Apodaca yet, much less worked with him?
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
picked up right where he left off
with the Sox…meh maybe he will turn out ok….time will tell
TuLoRocks2008 - September 2, 2010
Yeah, I'm certainly not denying that...then again, all the Sox pitchers have regressed this year, it seems.
I’m just hopeful because Dac’s had success with reclamation projects before. See De La Rosa, Jorge….Hammel, Jason…Street, Huston. Ah, you get the idea. :)
Like you said, time will tell.
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
exactly, the team arrived a couple hours before the game
we knew he was a turnaround project when we got him. If he’s still like this next April, that’s when you get out the pitchforks.
Rox Girl - September 2, 2010
if he's this way next April, he won't break camp with the team.
pedalpusher - September 2, 2010
Yeah...I'll wait until Apodaca has a chance to actually work with him.
After all, after last sason, Dac emphatically proved he was NOT the problem in the early struggles. :)
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
I want Balcom-Miller back
Colsportsfan - September 2, 2010
I don't think it was necessarily good to just throw him in there like that tonight
of course, how much of that is hindsight? if he’d held them we’d probably be singing his praises
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
The other reasonable choice at that point was Deduno
or Morales if you like living on the edge. Not sure I’d put the rookie in that situation any more than Delcarmen.
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
oh, there was no good choice
I’ll freely admit that
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
They showed lots of heart in this come back tonight
unfortunately this time of year we need W’s. Hopefully they will take this offense to Petco and at least stomp the Pads for 3 games.
smokinRox - September 2, 2010
This
Besides, if there’s one park not named “Coors Field” where this team can and does win consistently, it’s Petco.
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
That was...not the desired result
Oh, well…nothing I can do about it here on the intertubes anyway. It was quite the game, at any rate…and it’s still not past my bedtime. :)
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
Wish I could say the same!
But yes, it was still memorable, albeit ultimately unsuccessful.
ukroxfan - September 2, 2010

It’d actually be ROCKAHOL by volume ; )
And its high. Very very high.
prettyinpurple - September 2, 2010 via mobile

Russ Oates - September 2, 2010
Rockahol is magical
it’s purple. And it doesn’t damage the liver. It will put a strain on the cardiovascular system, though…

prettyinpurple - September 2, 2010 via mobile
3 and a half is OK. Two or less isn't worth the trouble
pedalpusher - September 2, 2010
I'll say its worth it if we won that game....
losing a game like that can really make it hard to go to bed
Colsportsfan - September 2, 2010
Sleep is for the weak.
Padres go night-night.
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
This game perfectly describes this team this season
Resilient, explosive, capable of dominant pitching, felled by overused relievers, entertaining, ultimately just a little short
Andrew T. Fisher - September 2, 2010
yep
couldn’t of said it any better
TuLoRocks2008 - September 2, 2010
don't forget to add "at home".
pedalpusher - September 2, 2010
Pretty true.
Andrew T. Fisher - September 2, 2010
Just a very inconsistent team....
they just don’t seem to click at same time very often. No doubt that this has been one of more entertaining seasons.
Colsportsfan - September 2, 2010
Lots of entertaining games anyway
That’s been fun
RhodeIslandRoxfan - September 2, 2010
No Doubt
that 9 run 9th inning, still can’t get over that game lol.
Colsportsfan - September 2, 2010
or the EPIC Braves game!
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
Yep
This season is a lot like 2008 in that sense. A frustrating season with a bunch of great games
RhodeIslandRoxfan - September 2, 2010
WAY, WAY MORE
great games than 08.
This season has had like 5x the ammount of “amazing oh my I just saw that” wins than any normal season.
prettyinpurple - September 2, 2010 via mobile
yep
And to add on:
Still plays baseball, which we love just for that.
Tonight was a baseball game. That should say enough…and I love this team no matter what.
prettyinpurple - September 2, 2010 via mobile
Amen!
/passes out more purple-tinted, silver-framed glasses

Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
I feel beaten right now
I’m caught between “WOW!!!!! What a baseball game!!!!!!!!!!!” and “How the hell do you lose a game when you have 20 hits?”
I HATE THE PHILIES!!!!!!!!!!!!
GAMES LIKE THIS ARE WHY I LOVE BASEBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are the Rockies done?
Should I just cry at this point?
I’m lost in a blur
RhodeIslandRoxfan - September 2, 2010

My sister in CT (probably an hour’s drive west of you?) is in the tropical storm warning zone.

RhodeIslandRoxfan - September 2, 2010
Absolutely
Pitchers and catchers is 5.5 months away…
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
Fortunately, we still have more of the season left ;-p
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
this
TuLoRocks2008 - September 2, 2010
Of course...
I was agreeing with the point…because next season is still pretty far away, so might as well enjoy the now.
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010

pedalpusher - September 2, 2010

You should feel lucky that I’m so willing to go to a game with you and the kids on the first Sunday of the NFL season. :)
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010

Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010

Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
rounding third...
Golly, I love baseball language!
prettyinpurple - September 2, 2010 via mobile
Darn right. And I'll watch all I can get of it.
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
Big mistake...
was to insert EY in the heart of a playoff race. He hits like Willy T., and fields like his Dad.
GoRoxGo - September 2, 2010 via mobile
....He had two hits
Andrew T. Fisher - September 2, 2010
Heck, the only man in the lineup without one was Helton
Yeah, Lil’ EY isn’t the problem here…
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
A big error
And look at his season line. Same as our former leadoff guy, Willy T. He came up swinging at the first pitch with the bases loaded againt Contreras that was in the dirt, after the previous two batters had 3-1 counts.
He’s not really a major leaguer at this time, and we can ill afford that in a playoff race. Now he can play the rest of the games since the race is over for us. I’d still prefer to see what Nelson can do.
GoRoxGo - September 2, 2010 via mobile
Look, I'm not saying EY is amazing
but we inserted EY in favor of Barmes.
EY wOBA: .296, OBP: .313
Barmes: .283, .300
It’s not as if he is good, but the fact remains he has been an upgrade over Barmes, especially given his speed. Ergo, it cannot be his fault we are not in contention when we would have been worse off had the switch not been made.
Andrew T. Fisher - September 2, 2010
I'm not asking for Barmes back, but Herrera or Nelson would be nice
we might as well see what they can do
smokinRox - September 2, 2010
I would love to see this
and Barmes needs a break. I wouldn’t expect his best right now anyway. ;-(
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
You forgot the defense comparison...
It’s not even close. EY’s errant throw to second on that DP ball resulted in 1 unearned rub tonight and an earlier exit for Chacin due to the extra pitches. Barmes makes that throw and we end inning with DP. We lost by one run instead.
We should have traded for Uggla, but EY2 is maybe our fourth best option for 2nd base right now, behind Herrera, Nelaon, and even Barmey. Speed is overrated if you can’t hit.
GoRoxGo - September 2, 2010 via mobile
unearned rub?
kinky.
sorry, it’s been a long day ;-p
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
Don't look a gift rub in the...
…ew, never mind.
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
crazy when 4 guys in the line up
have 3 hits each and still lose the game
TuLoRocks2008 - September 2, 2010
I know, I never thought I'd say this, but I would take Herrera over him right now
but more than either, I would like to see Nelson get a start.
smokinRox - September 2, 2010
And the alternative (Barmes) has hit worse
There are plenty of things we can criticize, but EY isn’t the reason why the Rockies are not in contention
Andrew T. Fisher - September 2, 2010
Possibly so, but as a leadoff hitter, he is way too much of a free swinger
it would be awesome to find a legit leadoff hitter some day.
smokinRox - September 2, 2010
I have no problem with either EY's fielding...
…and I do with Uggla, so there are lines I won’t cross
Chrysicat - September 2, 2010
I'm afraid what we see with EY now is his ceiling
I don’t see him being any better. Just another guy with fast wheels.
Colsportsfan - September 2, 2010
Phillies
breaking our hearts late since 2009.
But we’re Rockies fans! We’re used to heartbreak, and we keep coming back for more because WE LOVE THIS TEAM :-D
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
At least we got to break theirs in 2007!
smokinRox - September 2, 2010
Well, they've more than gotten revenge
they need to move on. I prefer a rivalry with the Red Sox. ;-p
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
Yes they have, but we will always have 2007,
that was the most fun I’ve ever had being a sports fan, at least top 2. Along w/ the Michigan Rose Bowl win in 1997, and I was there.
smokinRox - September 2, 2010
I must agree with this. I was a newly-minted Rockies fan
fell in love with them over the season as we’d just moved here in Feb 2007. First time any team had taken #1 over the Reds for me.
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
Phillies breaking our hearts late since 2009.
But at the end of the day, we’re not Philly fans…………….So it’s still a good day.
RhodeIslandRoxfan - September 2, 2010
We're not Philly fans
and I, at least, don’t live in Philly (there may be someone on here that does that I don’t know about).
All in all, we win at life. :)
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
Er. Chacin'd.
Sort of.
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
This is true
and the only thing worse than being a Philly fan would be being a Philly fan who lives in Philly.
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
You would be just as correct even without being a Philly fan. :)
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
This
I will give you. 4 non-consecutive years of that was too much for me.
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
4 non-consecutive DAYS is more than any reasonable person should be expected to handle
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
Sorry
since my family induces so many obligatory stays there…
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
No worries. You're worth it. :)
Just shows how tough we are that we survived to talk about it and kept our sanity.
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
I really hope the Phills don't make it the postseason
If we are going down, I want them to come down with us.
Colsportsfan - September 2, 2010
I'd be okay with their hopes getting crushed in the WS for the second year in a row
It’ll hurt them more that way.
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
I don't care where they go down
But I will be there when it happens. ;-p
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
What time is it in Hawaii? I'm watching this football game and it looks like it's the middle of the afternoon.

Andrew T. Fisher - September 2, 2010
later, Fish.
pedalpusher - September 2, 2010

Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010

prettyinpurple - September 2, 2010 via mobile

Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
Can't believe i am going to be rooting for the Reds in the playoffs
if all stays the same…out of all the teams ahead of us i would root for them by far lol
TuLoRocks2008 - September 2, 2010
I hear ya
If the Rockies don’t make it, I want a Rangers-Reds or a Rays-Reds WS.
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
agreed
Rays by far are my 2nd fav team in the league so i will def be going for them
TuLoRocks2008 - September 2, 2010
Oooooh, Reds-Rays would be tough ;-)
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
a Reds v Rays WS would be nice change for once
Colsportsfan - September 2, 2010
or the Rangers
Colsportsfan - September 2, 2010
I agree w/ this, but the Pads would be 2nd, I just don't think they have a chance.
smokinRox - September 2, 2010
I'm gonna pull for the Rangers. They are, after all, formerly the Washington Senators. Not the original ones, but Senators none the less.
pedalpusher - September 2, 2010
I am right there with you
they’re still my #2
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
I actually like a few of the AL teams this year
Rays, Rangers, and Twins are all fun to watch.
smokinRox - September 2, 2010
Yeah, I've developed a LOT of respect for the Twins over the last several years
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
this is very true
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
yep
somebody please knock off the Yankees and in the NL somebody knock off the Phillies and i will be happy

Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010

prettyinpurple - September 2, 2010 via mobile
After the expectations I had at the start of the season I can't believe we are talking about what other team we want to win the World Series on September 2nd
It just breaks my heart
RhodeIslandRoxfan - September 2, 2010
yep it sucks
but got to think realistically….
TuLoRocks2008 - September 2, 2010
I think injuries really hurt this years team and playing poorly on the road
but I am confident 2011 will be a far different and better year.
smokinRox - September 2, 2010
def
future is very very bright i am excited for the next few years
TuLoRocks2008 - September 2, 2010
2011- Cargo MVP and Ubaldo Cy Young
smokinRox - September 2, 2010
Just keep saying to yourself
that 3/5 of the rotation will very likely be Ubaldo, Chacin, and Hammel.
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
Not too bad at all and if we can re-sign JDLR, I really like our rotation.
smokinRox - September 2, 2010
The thought of this makes me squeal with delight
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
Have to agree here
The injury bug bit hard and often, and that damn thing has really sharp teeth. I know we got pretty lucky in that department overall last year, but damn.
Paleface Destro - September 2, 2010
Agree that the injuries are what did us in. Of course, we've still got (/consults handy-dandy schedule) 29 games remaining.
So anything is possible.( /thinks of 21 out of 22)
pedalpusher - September 2, 2010

RhodeIslandRoxfan - September 2, 2010
It's times like this I retreat into baseball fantasyland
(nothing to do with fantasy baseball, btw)
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010

Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
I dont root for other teams to win,
I root for certain teams to lose.
prettyinpurple - September 2, 2010 via mobile
HAHA
Me too
RhodeIslandRoxfan - September 2, 2010
pretty much i guess
as long as the Yankees, Phillies, Giants, Braves don’t win it i will be happy….prefer the Rays to win it all though
TuLoRocks2008 - September 2, 2010
The Rockies flight to San Diego must be an awfully somber one
RhodeIslandRoxfan - September 2, 2010
poor guys. I just want them to get some sleep on the plane
recoup for that battle with the padres tomorrow!
Rox the Casbah - September 2, 2010
doubt there's much good humor.
