that Jayson Werth, Ryan Howard, Cliff Lee, Chase Utley, and Joe Girardi can deliver another championship for the Phils. It was 28 years since they won until they won last year, so they can have one more.
Maybe it’s the fact the Phils bounced the Rox, or that they won it all last year, or that JRoll and Howard are way overrated, but I find myself, involuntarily, wanting to see the Yankees win. I feel dirty.
Did anyone notice that while the Yankees were being announced they played the theme from Star Wars? Why wouldn’t they play the Imperial Dirge? Come on, embrace being the Empire. Also, it’s a way better piece of music.
the resultant top spin provides really quick downward movement
The downside is that it is a bit harder to control and throw with velocity (more moving parts coming out of the hand) and a trained hitter can pick up the spin pretty well. Of course, if you throw it as well as lee, it doesn’t matter
I was just saying that the Boston Tea Party was the spark and the whole situation between the colonies and Great Britian was the forest. The Revolutionary War was probably going to happen anyway but that spark it what actually caused it.

Same thing I had with Lawrence Fishburn. Short guy. But then later someone told me, and it makes sense, that a lot of leading men are short, makes it easier to film scenes with women.
A friend had pointed out at one time how much of a difference in height there was between DAvid Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, and in a lot of X Files episodes, you can see the difference as they are walking but then she steps up on a box for the close up.
After spending my 2nd driveway session with the snowblower
I guess it’s a good thing the AL won the All-Star game and the Phillies bounced the Rockies. Imagine trying to start the World Series in Denver tonight?
I actually don’t know. I could kind of tell from the Notre Dame game that USC’s football team is sort of vulnerable this year with all the freshmen/sophomores starting.
My 3yo was irritating me by saying she wanted the Phillies to win… but just now she had a brain leak and said she wanted th Dodgers to win. Yes, she is blonde. :-)
They grew on me in college (went to college in upstate NY, and my husband grew up a Mets fan). Before I came to CO, my 3 favorite teams were the Reds, the Mets, and anyone playing the Braves…
Avs playing for the Cup in ’96. Friend wanted the Panthers, I went with the Avs. Classmates assumed I liked all the Colorado teams and I went with it. Baseball being my favorite sport, I went all in with the Rockies.
But definitely won’t pick a donkey or an elephant. It’s kinda like picking between the Phillies and the Yankees, for me… ;-p (just to try to make this about the game)
I fear that us Rockies fan will one day feel the same way. Can you imagine the nightmare of watching Tulo, Gonzo,Morales, and Jimenez face each other on different teams in the world series?

TuLoRocks2008 - October 28, 2009
Ugh. Yankees are undoubtedly the most evil-filled team in baseball. Go Phils.
Rather Dashing - October 28, 2009
I have faith
that Jayson Werth, Ryan Howard, Cliff Lee, Chase Utley, and Joe Girardi can deliver another championship for the Phils. It was 28 years since they won until they won last year, so they can have one more.
Plus, they’re playing the Yankees.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Remember hate=love.
So if we’re having a hatefest in here tonight, we’re really having a lovefest.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
It's Opposite Day, is it?
Ah, so you’ve been walking into walls instead of doors again. That explains such statements. My sympathies.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Every day is opposite day for me!
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Do you have unbirthday parties too?
Justus - October 28, 2009
That's every day
not my birthday!
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Just to let you know
I’m on board with you, Russ. I just don’t want the Phillies to win. Plus, I think that baseball is more interesting when the Yankees are good.
controlled_slide - October 28, 2009
The Yankees don't need to be good for me to hate them
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
But it's more fun to hate them when they're good, right?
I mean, otherwise it’s just sad.
controlled_slide - October 28, 2009
Not really
I thoroughly enjoyed their disaster last year.
But from an MLB standpoint you are right, it will do better when the Yankees are good.
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
ditto here.
I harbor more animosity for the Phillies than the Yankees over the course of my life. But I hope it’s at least a few good games to watch. :-)
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009

squalene203 - October 28, 2009
You should :)
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
actually, what I really want to see is a bunch of 12 to 11 slugfests. Good pitching is boring, unless it is Rox good pitching
squalene203 - October 28, 2009
That would be fun
But I rather see the Phils win a pitchers duel than the Yankees win a slugfest
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
I don't know
Watching a truly masterful pitching performance is one of my favorite things in baseball. Not to say that I don’t enjoy a good slugfest.

RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009

Andrew T. Fisher - October 28, 2009 via mobile
i don't wanna see lee 7 million times in 2010
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
I don't know
I might take a chance at being here tonight in exchange for having to face Lee 6 times a year
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
But then we would still have had to face the Dodgers in the NLCS
based on previous history, that may not have gone too well, and then we WOULD have a Dodgers/Yankees World Series.
oy vey
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Especially
if they now had Lee instead.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
I would take that chance
We would have had JDLR back and our pitching held the Phillies in check pretty well. We could have done it
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
But if Street had done what he did against the Phillies
against the Dodgers, I probably would have to throw myself out a window. Instead of just wanting to.

Well
the same way the Boston Tea Party was the start of the Revolutionary War.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
I thought that was the Battles of Lexington and Concord
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
No, that's my point
it’s not the first battle, just an event that is seen as sparking the other events which led to the actual war.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
in other words
I was making a comparison between the defenestration of Prague and the Boston Tea Party. Since I have a feeling I’m not being clear.

He is dreamy,
but BOOOO!!!!!
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Chase Utley
That guy is really good
controlled_slide - October 28, 2009
for a Bruin
Rox Girl - October 28, 2009
Oh, yeah.
Oregon is going to destroy USC on national TV this Saturday night.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
okay,if you say so...
I actually don’t know. I could kind of tell from the Notre Dame game that USC’s football team is sort of vulnerable this year with all the freshmen/sophomores starting.
Rox Girl - October 28, 2009
And Mark Sanchez throwing picks in the big time
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
our starting QB's besides Carson Palmer never seem to translate to the pros very well.
Our backups seem to do okay.
Rox Girl - October 28, 2009
Tell that to Matt Cassel right now.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Yeah
Cassel managed to do pretty well for himself: one good season with an insanely talented team turns into 68 mil.
LeinartLOL.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
My word=truth
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Except when it's wrong
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Truth
can be right or wrong, so there.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
I guess I would feel better if Philly won this
arpagamos - October 28, 2009
To make the Rox losing to them worth it?
I can see that justification, but it doesn’t work for me personally :-)
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
HAHA Yankees
That’s why you don’t build a bandbox in right field like that.
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Oh, my...
My 3yo was irritating me by saying she wanted the Phillies to win… but just now she had a brain leak and said she wanted th Dodgers to win. Yes, she is blonde. :-)
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
the scenarios where this might actually be conceivable,
namely, both the Yankees and Phillies being disqualified some shameful scandal, intrigue me. I want to subscribe to your daughter’s newsletter.
Rox Girl - October 28, 2009
When she learns to write
I’ll let you know ;-)
PS – that’s her on my back in the profile pic. Last season. ;-)
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
HAHA commentary fail
Try saying “Derek Jeter” five times fast…
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Nice Job Lee
Only 40 pitches through three innings.
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
I thought team blah-blah-blah knew how to work pitchers?
Muzia - October 28, 2009
Aparently not
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Ooh, stargazing time already?
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Wow,
we aren’t discussing the game.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
We are missing one hell of a pitchers duel
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
yankees are losing
squalene203 - October 28, 2009
For now.
They’re gearing up.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
gearing up to suck
squalene203 - October 28, 2009
the Phillies' blood.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
this made me laugh.
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Too bad the Phillies ate garlic last night
Yankees are in for a nasty shock
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Too bad
the Rockies aren’t playing the Yankees, because everyone knows that Rockies players all carry crosses around their necks and/or in their pockets.
disclaimer: I was fully joking.
Justus - October 28, 2009
*laugh*
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Courtesy of Chutley
Hope that changes
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
The Rockies aren't playing
controlled_slide - October 28, 2009
True.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
And historinerdness is more fun anyway
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
I couldn't agree more.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
no.kidding.
I tried to z past all the history stuff, and it just wouldn’t end. Kind of symbolic, if you think about it.
Justus - October 28, 2009
Why
would you ‘z’ past all of that?
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Possibly
because I’m an enginerd. :-) But I do like history – understand the conversation, just don’t feel like I have much to contribute.
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Non-historinerds will be very welcome in the thread
they can ask us questions, so we can feel important answering them, and deflate our ego-balloons.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Mine's fit to burst.
Muzia - October 28, 2009
who won world war II?
squalene203 - October 28, 2009
Freedom.
Muzia - October 28, 2009
It's like
when I walk into my professor’s class with a stack of books related to the books we’re discussing and then the students learn I’m not in the class.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
we.are.historinerds
we.are.coming.to.eat.your.children
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Well, most of it was self-referential
Talking about being historinerds and making a historinerd thread
controlled_slide - October 28, 2009
Yeah just wait until we get our own thread
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
I hope SDCat shows up
And talks about the Germans and Pearl Harbor
controlled_slide - October 28, 2009
Historinerd feeding frenzy
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Was it over when...
no situation for that at the moment… :-\
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Now if she uses the Zimmerman Telegram as evidence, I may let it slide.
Muzia - October 28, 2009
I really want this thread already
Do we have to wait until the World Series is over?
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Remember how cold and lonely the November Rockpiles are...
Muzia - October 28, 2009
Yeah that's the wise thing
save it for when the offseason is REALLY boring.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Friday?
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Garsh, I almost feel like you missed me :)
SDcat09 - October 29, 2009
:-0
but…but…
Muzia - October 28, 2009
Lee does have 7 k's thats pretty good
arpagamos - October 28, 2009
Robert E.?
Muzia - October 28, 2009
OK, I'm confused
Tried to reply and it still says it’s posting there, but it showed up as a top-level comment…
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
The comment was deleted.
Once you refresh the page, the comments will look weird.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Oh, ok.
I almost never refresh the page. My bad.
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Oy Russ (and any other NY dwellers around here)
I have a (hilarious and extremely) hypothetical question:
Who would you root for in a Mets/Yankees WS?
Justus - October 28, 2009
Yankees.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Oh,
but if the Rockies disappeared one day, I’d totally be a Mets fan. I like a loser.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
I like the Mets
They grew on me in college (went to college in upstate NY, and my husband grew up a Mets fan). Before I came to CO, my 3 favorite teams were the Reds, the Mets, and anyone playing the Braves…
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
My question
Since you have never been to CO, how are you a Rockies fan?
Muzia - October 28, 2009
A misunderstanding.
Avs playing for the Cup in ’96. Friend wanted the Panthers, I went with the Avs. Classmates assumed I liked all the Colorado teams and I went with it. Baseball being my favorite sport, I went all in with the Rockies.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
You should put this in your profile
unless you have that text saved for a copy/paste sometime
Andrew T. Fisher - October 28, 2009
They aren't complete losers.
They are exceptionally good at getting injured, choking, and finding novel ways to play their ways out of playoffs.
Justus - October 28, 2009
I like underdogs not losers
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
This game is actually really boring
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Yeah, it seems like a weather-fueled pitchers
controlled_slide - October 28, 2009
Duel
controlled_slide - October 28, 2009
Hence
historinerdness.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
The Phillies are halfway towards regaining Hawpe's mojo from Crawford.
Muzia - October 28, 2009
Since we are talking about history I have noticed a disturbing trend about the Yankees and political parties
If the Yankees win the World series this year check out what happens when Democrats are in office
Yankee World Series under Democrats
Obama = 1 (Hope this stays at zero)
Clinton = 4
Carter = 2
LBJ =0
JFK = 2
Yankee World Series under Republicans
George W.Bush =0
George Bush = 0
Ragan =0
Ford =0
Nixon = 0
It does not work as well before 1960 but that’s a 50 year trend.
Interesting isn’t it?
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Is this wins or appearances?
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Wins
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
OK that's funny :-)
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Further evidence that a Great Society contains no Yankee rings
Muzia - October 28, 2009
Uh oh
This could get ugly
controlled_slide - October 28, 2009
please don't make me bust out the Community Guidelines
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
We're getting pretty close to that aren't we
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
But they didn't win any under LBJ either.
KindredSprites - October 28, 2009
Wasn't he talking about LBJ's Great Society
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
aghh what?
Is this what happens to this site when we can’t talk about the rockies game
arpagamos - October 28, 2009
Nah,
it usually just goes silent for stretches.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Gone for forever
But yes, I was referencing the Great Society of LBJ, not democratic or republican.
Muzia - October 28, 2009
Good I'm not crazy
You left me hanging a long time :)
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Hey, there's no red or blue here...
… just purple, right? ;-)
(~ a Constitutionalist)
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Sometimes there's red in the links
but that’s some sort of bug in the system from copying old text
Andrew T. Fisher - October 28, 2009
I'm in the middle
Picking between those two are like picking between the Dodgers and the Yankees
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Don't know if I can totally claim the middle,
But definitely won’t pick a donkey or an elephant. It’s kinda like picking between the Phillies and the Yankees, for me… ;-p (just to try to make this about the game)
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
hahahah Rollins you idiot
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Hey there
things just got exciting.
Justus - October 28, 2009
yeah umpiring snafus!
woooooo
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Umps: still incompetent?
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
yeah, it's almost more of a snafu that they DIDN'T muff it
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
replay would have saved a good 2 to 3 minutes there
squalene203 - October 28, 2009
Is it just me
or does Fox REALLY overuse the split screen?
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
this is just a terrible game
squalene203 - October 28, 2009
This is a good game
I think
arpagamos - October 28, 2009
a terribly unentertaining game
squalene203 - October 28, 2009
There's just no offense
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Well except for Utley
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
jinx
squalene203 - October 28, 2009
Could have something to do
with the Cy Youngs on the mound.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Thank you
arpagamos - October 28, 2009
If I was an Indians fan I'd want to stab my eyes out
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
They all do
I live in Cleveland and wow they bitch all the time.
arpagamos - October 28, 2009
Part of that might be due to living in Cleveland...
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Living in Cleveland might have something to do with that.
Granted, the only part of Cleveland I’ve seen was the airport, so I might not know what I’m talking about.
Justus - October 28, 2009
I love Cleveland
Well ok the weather sucks, but the city is really cool. It feels like Denver
arpagamos - October 28, 2009
I would have done it already
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Granted
I fear that us Rockies fan will one day feel the same way. Can you imagine the nightmare of watching Tulo, Gonzo,Morales, and Jimenez face each other on different teams in the world series?
arpagamos - October 28, 2009
We have more money than the Indians
We won’t lose all of those players
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
sorry
after we have only come close, but failed to win a single one
arpagamos - October 28, 2009
huh
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Depends on what you're in it for
I’d like to see a little more action… not necessarily a full-out slugfest, but at some point it does get old, especially when B&M run out of material…
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Chase. . .
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
I really wish we had drafted that other UCLA star
Andrew T. Fisher - October 28, 2009
What
you’re not terribly enamoured with Garrett Atk….
argh.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
GREG REYNOLDS
OH SEE WHAT I DID THERE WE SHOULDA DRAFTED LONGORIA OR TEMMI
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
humm
well
YOU KNOW ITS TRUE WE SHOULDA
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
And Atkins did have a couple pretty damn solid seasons for us
before he vanished off the face of the planet
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
yeahhhhh
too bad Utley’s a top-5 player in baseball
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Yeah
there’s that little problem right thar
damn, hindsight’s great, isn’t it?
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
ain't that the truth
I remember how awesome Atkins was in 2006
2006 was my favorite year, despite how badly we sucked
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
2006?
Atkins could not have been the only reason
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Atkins and Holliday
they were so good
the emergence of Spilborghs
Jennings and his 3.78 ERA
Ramon Ramirez and Manny Corpas
Purple Glove
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
When did you start really following the Rox again?
Andrew T. Fisher - October 28, 2009
2004 :-(
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
What about Tulo and Ubaldo coming up in 07?
Plus career years for Francis and Holliday
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Tulo came up in 2006
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
So did Ubaldo if you want to count September.
What’s not to love about a middle infield of Jamey Carroll and Clint Barmes.
KindredSprites - October 28, 2009
True
But it was so late in the season and he nothing.
2007 is when we first saw his awsomeness
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
He was up in August and basically handed the job
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
He was up on August 30, so one month
Plus he batted like .240 with an OPS of .609
I was optimistic but not impressed
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
ok
2006 was my favorite year
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Fair enough
07 and this year were mine
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
awesome
^5
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
^5
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
14 players drafted before Utley
Adrian Gonzalez
Adam Johnson
Luis Montanez
Mike Stadolka
Justin Wayne
Rocco Baldelli
Matt Harrington
Matthew Wheatland
Mark Phillips
Joe Torres
Dave Krynzel
Joe Borchard
Shaun Boyd
Beau Hale
Talk about an uninspiring bunch
Andrew T. Fisher - October 28, 2009
well, save for the first guy
Rox Girl - October 28, 2009
Yeah, but it's not like the Marlins got the value from drafting him
they just got a murderer for him
Andrew T. Fisher - October 28, 2009
urgeth urbina or whoever it was?
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Yep
Andrew T. Fisher - October 28, 2009
Rocco Spanking Baldelli
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
I was gonna say something about Baldelli
the Rhode Island Roccket
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
he and CDI were on an all star team together there
Rox Girl - October 28, 2009
Baldelli really has disappionted me
I thought he’d be really good before all the medical stuff happened to him
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Chase Utley is amazing.
Justus - October 28, 2009
I actually...like him
I feel dirty
Andrew T. Fisher - October 28, 2009
He's very likable.
And good. And he doesn’t play for the Yankees.
Justus - October 28, 2009
I dunno
he always comes across as kind of standoffish and weird to me. For whatever reason.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
don't
he’s amazing
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
and by like him
I mean like…more than half our team
Andrew T. Fisher - October 28, 2009
I'd trade half our team for him
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
I don't think I'd go that far
but I might give up 3 or 4 of em
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Yeah
Barmes, Hawpe, Atkins, Torrealba (with his option).
KindredSprites - October 28, 2009
for that package, we should ask for cliff lee
squalene203 - October 28, 2009
I'd demand Victorino back in that as well
there’s a lot of heart leaving in that trade
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Especially from Atkins
Andrew T. Fisher - October 28, 2009
potatoes, steaks, etc
Andrew T. Fisher - October 28, 2009
shut your foul mouth
they want our dregs
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Which half?
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
it'd be a representative cross section
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Utley for Barmes
Straight up.
KindredSprites - October 28, 2009
they would have to throw in another prospect, but not a bad idea
squalene203 - October 28, 2009
A prospect named Ubaldo
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
I was facetiously saying Phils would have to. Guess I sounded less sarcastic and more dumb
squalene203 - October 28, 2009
ohhhhhh
I just misread it
I demand Kyle Drabek
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
btw, "facetiously" has all 5 vowels (plus y!) used in alphabetical order
I think that’s cool
squalene203 - October 28, 2009
NERD
that is interesting though
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog
is not impressed
Andrew T. Fisher - October 28, 2009
Neither is the stewardess
We live in the computer age. ;-)
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
ok I bite
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
longest word you can type with just your left hand
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
ahhhhhhh
strengths
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
longest 1-syllable word?
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
I think you are right
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
i do too
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
What about stewardesses?
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
it's a plural
kinda cheap :-)
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Still is the longest word you can type with your left hand
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
technically :-)
Now I’m hungry for taco salad…
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Chase Utley: Really Goddamn Good at Baseball
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Chase Utley will require a police escort to get to the ballpark tomorrow
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Chutley 2, Yankees 0
Think they’ll pitch to him again tonight?
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
They could intentionally walk him with two outs
Like Fuentes did to A-Rod in the ninth inning of Game 5.
oh god that was classic Fuentes
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
There's you boy Cano RMN
Look at the effort he put in for that one
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
barmes has that and turns a triple play
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
It's not just his talent
That was a piss poor effort. THIS IS THE WORLD SERIES! I know it’s wet princess but please dive for something. They are paying you enough right?
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
I agree
I dislike Robbie C berra berra much
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Barmes has that
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
That was the awesomest catch of all time
well…3rd awesomest
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Lee looks relaxed
arpagamos - October 28, 2009
BTW
What were the two most awesomest catches of all time?
Willie Mayes and Barmes’s catch that wasn’t really a catch?
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 29, 2009
I vote..
Jeffery Mayer and Steve Bartman’s catch.
Charlie77 - October 29, 2009
I like it
Maybe everyone’s vote for greatest catches of all time should be an offseason thread.
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 29, 2009
Wow what a catch
arpagamos - October 28, 2009
How many people do you need to stand silently next to you when you sing?
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
She was from the military
Andrew T. Fisher - October 28, 2009
I hate to day this but this game reminds me a lot of games 4 and 5 of the 01 World Series
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
say this
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
I'm still hungry.
I need more dinner.
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Cliff Lee is stupidly good at baseball
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Don't jinx it
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
ha, did you see that tag he just made
“good game slugger”
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Of course I didn't see the tag
I lack a god damn TV
cursessssss
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
I have two extra...
Andrew T. Fisher - October 28, 2009
I also have 2 extra
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
It's hard to believe you are living in 2009, are not Amish, and have no TV
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
I live in a dorm
dorm doesn’t get cable
I have no money
my flat-screen is back at home in CO
QED
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
So even if you had a TV it would not have mattered
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
But Fox isn't cable is it?
Andrew T. Fisher - October 28, 2009
It's hard to believe the Yankees have four hits with the way he is pitching
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Far more importantly:
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/4347/2rc5rgj.gif
it’s a 1MB file, so I’m not gonna paste it as a picture
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
What an ass.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
that was the most badass catch I've ever seen a pitcher make
and if Ubaldo had done it you’d absolutely love it
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
He seems to have lulled everyone, including himself to sleep
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
I want another Utley HR
Reggie who?
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
no haven't you heard
Arod is the new mr october
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
To bad for him the World Series will end in November
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
well it'll just be up to Chase Utley to be Mr. November
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
3 K's tonight!
RdRnnr - October 28, 2009
Cmon Phils bust it open here
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
do we get a taco for that stolen base
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Tocommy Beollins?
doesn’t quite have the same ring to it
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
And Tacoby Ellsbury does?
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Tacoby Bellsbury
get it right JEEZ.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Tacoby Bellsbury
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
yes russ
yes it does
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
recd
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
I don't think so.
I need hard numbers to prove that it does.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Pstt everyone
this is Russ trying to be funny again

Hard numbers, not imaginary ones. ARGH!
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
what
those numbers were totally real
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Can I put my hand
on 1? Can I smell 1?
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
one taco, yes
what, do I need to write out a word problem?
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
I need a word problem.
I also need it to be certified by three PhD’s in math.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
you ask too much sir
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
I only ask the impossible.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
good thing you're a baseball fan
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
I have long since lost track
of the reason for this conversation
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
I find this all
rather amusing. It’d be hilarious for someone to base their opinion of me on tonight’s conversations.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
or last night's
or the night before
you’ve been on an absurd roll lately
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Of course, the truth
is that I’m not that much different if you personally meet me.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
That's scary
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
I assumed as such
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
If this was the first thread I ever read on PR
I would think everyone here was insane
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Wait
you mean we’re NOT?
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Good point
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
you've clearly missed something then :C
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Like every other off topic thread
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
1 is a real number
unless we’re still in Opposite Land.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Of course we are.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
I don't get how you have managed to live 24 years in
the real world
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Because the world is not real.
It’s a garden and I’m the gardener.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
QED

Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
How do I prove something to
when the proof isn’t real?
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
the world isn't arbitrary i'm afraid
absolutes exist
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
ooh fight
between the enginerd and the historinerd
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Give me something that
is at absolute zero.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Okay
0.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
And here I thought
you couldn’t reach absolute zero, ever.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Yeah your world has been turned upside down now huh
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Is this Yorktown
and “The World Turned Upside Down” is playing?
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Okay I read somewhere you're not supposed to humor the insane
here’s your nice padded cell and straitjacket Russell, thanks for playing
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Did you just
call me Russell?
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Indeed I did
that got your attention dinnit
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Well, yes,
because that’s just odd.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
I think you struck a nerve
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
would you like to
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
The
Bose-Einstein Condensate disagrees.
Justus - October 28, 2009
Doesn't
that get only a few billionths away from absolute zero?
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Technically,
it’s the state of matter at absolute zero. But you’re right…which is weird since you’re rooting for the Yankees.
Justus - October 28, 2009
I think this thread is close to reaching absolute zero
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
I am reccing that

Silverblood - October 28, 2009

Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
you end up in the Swamp Primeval
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Or, luckily,
David Eckstein’s.
Justus - October 28, 2009
DAVID EKSTEIN IS TEH REAL MVP
WHY WONT U RESPECTTTT
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
The only imaginary number
is the square root of -1.
Silly historinerds.
Justus - October 28, 2009
what about eleventy2
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
What about 0
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
And all multiples thereof.
KindredSprites - October 28, 2009
I'm missing something.
Justus - October 28, 2009
Back in 2007
Taco Bell, World Series, Jacoby Ellsbury. More trying to feed you death.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Ah. You know there are unhealthier things than tacos, right?
Bacon. Big Macs. Drugs. Hmm, yeah, I think that’s a comprehensive list right there.
Justus - October 28, 2009
He's still at it, too.
Apparently Taco Bell is giving away free Black Jack tacos Saturday night, and Ellsbury was promoting it the other day. So the name still fits.
holly96 - October 28, 2009
I want a free taco
I want tacos
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Hit up Taco Bell Saturday night after 6 and you can have one.
Just avoid all the freaks in costumes.
holly96 - October 28, 2009
maybe i will
I’ve wanted to try this taco
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
I think it would be interesting if the promotion was
Only AL cities get tacos if the AL team steals a base first and only NL cities get tacos if the NL team steal a base first.
Don’t know what they would do in NY, Chicago, and LA though
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
suck
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Is that a response to the promotion idea or to NY, LA, and Chicago
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
latter
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Only if you want to die from it.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
mmm tacos
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Do we get to be burned?
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
I thought
only I get to be burned because I want to turn this place into Yankees Row for a week.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Well I heard such great things about it yesterday
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Wouldn't the more appropriate re-titling of Purple Row as a Yankee's site be...
“Murderer’s Row”?
Not that there could be an appropriate re-purposing/desecration.
RdRnnr - October 28, 2009
If Russ does it
I’ll ban ’im
fer sure
okay we’re not going down this road again
but I will
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
We should
I never get tacos when the Rockies score 7 runs
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
I just shouldn't have to pay for taco bell
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Utley you giant fail
that was anticlimactic as hell
Silverblood - October 28, 2009

RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Cliff Lee is a ninja
Silverblood - October 28, 2009

RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Is anybody else getting crappy reception with DirecTV?
I cleaned off the dish earlier. Still seemed pretty clean when I went to do it again just now… but mine’s breaking up.
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
No problems here
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Bummer
I don’t think the snow’s picked up enough for that kind of attenuation… maybe I’ve got a coat of ice. I’ll have to hope the sun melts it off tomorrow…
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
If you have ice then that's probably it
I’ve had problems with that before
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Might be time to fire up the DVR then
I’ve got quite a bit of Star Trek, Robot Chicken, WKUK, and more… ;-)
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
which star trek
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
Yes.
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Shoot! Take that back...
No TOS or DS9 on there right now.
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
As soon as I hit “Post,” it came back, good as new. Guess I just needed to threaten. Wish that would work with my girls, who won’t go to sleep.
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Get your husband on the job
isn’t that what husbands are for?
Then you kick back and watch TV.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Unfortunately, he is on the job
Literally. Got called in to work to provide crew relief because of weather. I might see him tomorrow.
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
threatening children hm
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
There's a sign about "we are experiencing techynical difficulties..."
but I can’t read the rest because the picture’s broken.
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Picture is great on cable...
same as always. LOL
RdRnnr - October 28, 2009
coooooooooch
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009

Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
This game sucks.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Yankees losing
any game in the world where that occurs is awesome
particularly in the World Series.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
What about when
MLB expands to the moon and Mars?
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
the solar series
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
MLB would need quite a humidor if they played on the moon
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
DON'T THEY ALREADY
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
COORSSSS FEEEEILLDDD
Silverblood - October 28, 2009

Even I can't
attempt to make awesome=sucks.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
AH HA
FOILED AT LAST
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Just like the Yankees
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Go N.L.
RdRnnr - October 28, 2009
The *only* good thing about the Phillies winning is that it would bring the honors to the NL.
And I’ve always been an NL girl.
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
That's the spirit
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Of course, then I'd have to deal with my obnoxious family (OK, my sisters are exempt... it would be my parents and brother)
Traitorous Phillies fans.
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Remind them that the Phils have lost more games than any MLB franchise in history
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Woohoo! Thanks for that!
Adolescent bitterness… just can’t put it behind me…
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
For some reason I just can't get enough of the Ynakees losing
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
I know
it’s great.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Wow
I never would’ve thought that the Phillies would just kick butt
arpagamos - October 28, 2009
still gotta win 3 more
Silverblood - October 28, 2009

Silverblood - October 28, 2009

Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Of Brad Lidge?
KindredSprites - October 28, 2009
Only 7 solo shots away
Seems like the Yankees game plan.

RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009

Silverblood - October 28, 2009

arpagamos - October 28, 2009

Silverblood - October 28, 2009

A married woman, at that ;-)
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
ok I'm pathetic
arpagamos - October 28, 2009

RdRnnr - October 28, 2009

Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
hmm
what happened to the future Mrs RMN?
or is this something you’d rather not go into?
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
left me at the beginning of summer
still not sure why
was doing great, moving on, and then she wanted to drop some of my stuff off
we chatted, I made the mistake of asking if she still thinks about us, she said yes, cried, stuff like that, heartstrings were pulled
wanted to watch this game together, she stood me up
Andrew Martin - October 28, 2009
awwwwww
I’ll give you a big ol embarrassing cyber hug
hang in there champ
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
surprisingly not as miserable as I thought I would be
being stood up just blows in general

Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
Always nice to read that
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Not sad about that
But not happy about the Phillies winning
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Yeah
but considering they’re not the Dodgers, I am managing to be okay with it.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
Based on your comments about the Dodgers
I’m thinking you have an understanding of how I feel about the Phillies. :-D
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009
Considering that they ARE the Phillies
I am exceedingly okay with it.
Justus - October 28, 2009
Aside from the fact that those asshats broke my heart a few weeks ago,
yeah.
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
At least we know it was nothing personal with Lee and Howard
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
I'm pretty sure
They’re racist against pinstripes.
KindredSprites - October 28, 2009
At least
One’s that aren’t red.
KindredSprites - October 28, 2009
And anything Blue
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Oh Chase Utley
Justus - October 28, 2009
Here's a stat for you:
Everytime someone surnamed Lee pitches a post season complete game, they win the series.
KindredSprites - October 28, 2009
Really?

Based on what sample size? :-)
Rox the Casbah - October 28, 2009

KindredSprites - October 28, 2009

I want to talk more about the Yankees mortification
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Nah.
Russ Oates - October 28, 2009
I can make one if you want
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
No it's OK
I don’t know what we would discuss besides Lee’s dominance. (Not much else to tonught’s game)
I just can’t get enough of the Yankees losing
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
2008 AL Cy Young winner > 2007 AL Cy Young winner
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Charlie Manuel sounds senile
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
Bad news for you Russ
The winner of game 1 has won the last six and 18 of the last 21 world series.
RhodeIslandRoxfan - October 28, 2009
I consider that excellent news for humanity
Silverblood - October 28, 2009
